Chapter 1934: Your Luck Ran Out
Chapter 1934: Your Luck Ran Out
Mortals and Demigods.
One is bound by the world and still stands at the starting road to power—and the other is freed from the shackles of weakness and has made significant progress toward Godhood. The two cannot be compared. The differences between them are many. And their powers are vastly separated.
It doesn’t matter whether the Demigod is a lowly servant and the mortal is a king.
Demigods will always be higher than mortals.
Power-wise, divine strands made all the difference between the two.
Even if the mortal somehow has a physical or magical strength superior to the Demigod, the fact that a Demigod has integrated divine strands—into their very being made them far superior. Nothing a mortal does could be compared to what a Demigod could do.
But at this very moment, a mortal was enduring Demigod Adolf’s power.
Possessing the Minor Law of Telekinesis and the Energy Oustification allowed him to crush anyone he wanted with a single flick of his finger. Many Demigods would fall to their knees when his power was used against them.
For him to use it on a mortal meant he could crush the mortal as easily as crushing a bug.
Flesh, vertebrae, magical prowess; everything would crumble under his power.
But George remained standing, cup in hand, staring at Demigod Adolf with unworried eyes.
"What in the...?" His eyes widened in shock, but he quickly snapped out of his daze and put even more strength into the Law of Telekinesis. Even the air was visibly shaking around George—from how much power was weighing him down. Still nothing. "How is this possible?"
Nonchalantly, George placed down the cup as if he wasn’t influenced by the crushing force at all.
And then, his eyes flashed crimson.
"For someone who claimed to be a predator," George’s lips curled into a cynical smile; one that struck fear and dread deep into Demigod Adolf’s heart. "You are quite a failure for not recognizing another of your kind..."
"Y-You...?!" Demigod Adolf was at a loss for words.
Now, the pieces clicked inside his mind.
It was strange from the start to see the women on the bed were shaking in fear before he even did or said anything. He thought George was a bastard who abused his women, but that’s not what was going on—the person in front of him isn’t George.
Instead, he was another Demigod.
Someone from the Red Skull Elite Force.
"Don’t you know how important it was to make preparations in advance?" Rex asked—licking his lips as he found his next prey. And the fear coming from this prey was delectable. "How can you not know the face of the person you’re going to recruit?"
Not even uttering a single word back, Demigod Adolf ran out of the tent and blasted away.
He wasn’t expecting to meet another Demigod of Rex’s caliber.
Better for him to retreat first.
"Girls..." Rex glanced at the women on the bed who finally opened their eyes. "You almost made him get caught on too soon when I specifically told you to act normal. I don’t like that. But I’ll be kind, and let you off since I’m in a good mood. Keep an eye on George. If he escaped, both of you dies."
He didn’t wait for the women to answer and exited the tent.
Just as expected, Demigod Adolf’s energy was untraceable. He still needed to train more.
But his scent and his fear were as clear as the moon against the night sky for Rex.
Locking onto a direction, Rex’s lips curled into a faint smile. He activated both the Primordial Step and the Voidal Moonflow Acceleration simultaneously, and in the space between heartbeats, he disappeared like a ghost.
He made three rapid strides, activating all the boosts from the Primordial Step skill.
It launched him beyond the realm of sight; his speed eclipsed even that of a phantom.
Meanwhile, a few miles away.
’I got careless,’ Demigod Adolf soared through the sky with lightning-fast speed. ’I shouldn’t have dropped my guard like that. Had he not underestimated me, I wouldn’t be able to escape. That man doesn’t emit that much aura, but something about him made me uneasy.’
As he soared through the sky, his mind wracked for a way to complete his mission.
He was sent here to plunge the Grisian Empire into chaos.
Considering the sheer influence of the empire, reaching every corner of the continent and even more than that, he couldn’t afford to fail. In order to do that, minutes ago, it was either to locate George and lure him with power or change target to the emperor.
Now, it was the same, but he would also need to take care of the Demigod he met earlier.
If he didn’t do that, then the Demigod would stop chaos from spreading.
"But how do I do that...? He’s not even affected at all by my power."
Swish—!
Just then, Demigod Adolf heard a piercing sound of something cutting through the air.
Just then, Demigod Adolf heard a piercing sound that sliced through the air.
He looked over his shoulder, fully expecting the sound to be in his mind, but in that sliver of a second, his pupils flared as he saw something. A figure was charging straight at him and was closing fast. Before recognition could crystallize, something seized his ankle.
No, it’s a hand.
"Where are you going?" Rex’s menacing voice seeped into his ears.
Swoosh—!
Crash—!
Like a comet, Demigod Adolf was launched to the ground hard.
And the impact shattered the upper half of a mountain and carved a crater that stretched for miles. Saliva burst from Demigod Adolf’s mouth—as the shockwave ripped through him. ’So fast!’ He launched out of the crater, eyes darting left and right wildly—as he realized he was now being hunted down. ’I never knew the Red Skull Elite Force had someone like this. Who the hell is he?’
Just as the thought finished, something slammed into him from behind.
He lurched forward, spinning before he caught himself.
Demigod Adolf gritted his teeth in anger, but the air shifted again; searing pain dragged across his entire back.
He couldn’t even flinch before the wound erupted, blood sprayed from a gash that spanned shoulder to shoulder. Being sent to this low-tier realm annoyed him earlier as he felt like he was better than merely being sent to this lowly place.
But at the very least, things would be easy for once.
Intimidating a few mortals shouldn’t be a problem.
Never once did he think that he would be beaten up like this.
"Raarggh!"
Sheer rage surged through Demigod Adolf. He threw his arms wide and spread his Law of Telekinesis outward, weaving an invisible barrier that shimmered beyond sight. But he knew—this was not nearly close to being enough.
His enemy was abnormal.
Gritting his teeth, he poured Energy Oustification into the barrier, reinforcing it even further.
Even the air around him was influenced, becoming denser and unbreakable.
As much as he wanted to tear this Demigod to shreds, he needed to regroup first.
But what he thought was enough is still lacking.
Crash—!
Demigod Adolf’s eyes flew wide as his barrier shattered—not cracked, not splintered, but simply ceased to exist in an instant. He looked down. It was the man from earlier. No, it was a beast cloaked in black fur with a glowing crimson mark blazing on its forehead.
One strike, that was all it had taken for this beast to shatter his barrier.
"Is that all you can do?" Rex asked.
Desperately, he swung the divine-rank sword in his hand toward Rex’s neck, but only found air.
Rex was already above with his hands clasped together, and swung down hard.
He launched Demigod Adolf back into the ground.
But this time, he didn’t stop there—as Demigod Adolf’s body bounced off the ground from the vicious initial impact, Rex came down hard, driving his heel into his stomach with a stomp that split the ground underneath him.
Cracks webbed outward in every direction, and across the area. Entire hills collapsed into rubble.
For those in the area, they must’ve thought an earthquake was happening.
Blood burst from Demigod Adolf’s mouth.
Something glowed on his chest: a necklace, and it blasted an energy beam directly toward Rex.
Rex was pushed back, but the energy beam did nothing to him.
He watched silently—as Demigod Adolf scrabbled away in blind panic, clawing at the dirt in a frantic bid to escape. The truth had finally sunk in: he had bitten off far more than he could chew. Whatever confidence he’d had in his strength, two exchanges with Rex had been enough to shatter it.
They weren’t even close to the same level.
An amused smile reached Rex’s lips.
"Pneuma Spell: Ether Blink..."
Blitz—!
A vicious lightning strike descended from the clear sky and struck Rex, turning him into a thousand lightning particles. Then, a few miles ahead, another lightning strike descended. Rex emerged from that and drove his fist into Demigod Adolf’s back.
Since panic had already settled in, no need for him to waste energy by using stronger skills.
Just the weaker spells or skills would do.
For the next ten minutes, Rex allowed Demigod Adolf to run away before striking him hard.
Over and over again.
Each attack broke something inside Demigod Adolf’s body, and slowly drained his strength away. Like a hunter playing with his prey, Rex stripped hope from Demigod Adolf’s mind. Drilling into him that there’s no escaping.
No escape from death.
Boom—!
Rex landed hard behind Demigod Adolf, who was now already limping away.
"What’s the matter?" He tilted his head slightly—a gesture of genuine, contemptuous curiosity. "What kind of face are you making? Those kids you killed—earlier... I think they handled fear far better than you. How old are they? Thirteen? Fifteen? Aren’t you ashamed that you’re doing worse than them?
"You acted so high and mighty while slaughtering them. Don’t be pathetic now."
Just earlier, Rex could hear the kids playing around even from the main tent.
And then he sensed something wicked near them, which made him send a clone to check.
It was then he saw Demigod Adolf killing the children and even disrespecting their corpses.
Rex’s hands were far from clean. He had committed acts he wasn’t proud of—things done in the grip of a berserk fury that left no room for restraint. But there was one line he had never crossed: he didn’t toy with them. His kills were swift. Efficient. Devoid of pleasure.
He had never made the death of the innocents a performance.
But Demigod Adolf, on the other hand, took pleasure in killing the weak.
At the very least, he should be able to handle being toyed with.
Not be pathetic like this.
"Wait! Wait!!" he wailed, tears streaking down his bruised cheeks. The beatings had left him a ruin—teeth missing, face swollen, body broken in ways that made him barely recognizable. The dignified air he had carried so proudly earlier had crumbled to nothing. "Don’t kill me! I’ll do anything! I’ll apologize to their parents on my knees! I’ll dig their graves with my own two hands and give them a proper burial! Just please...Please don’t kill me!"
Rex’s eyes narrowed.
In a flash, his body blurred as he landed a perfect roundhouse kick against Demigod Adolf’s legs.
Both legs broke instantly with the sound of a tree branch breaking.
He dropped to the ground and cried out in pain.
"Don’t say that," Rex shook his head. "Don’t bet. Be a man and accept your death."
Hearing this, Demigod Adolf’s eyes became hollow. "I’ll do anything! Please! Please!!"
"It’s not entirely because of what you did to those kids," Rex squatted down—and grabbed him by his hair. "I also need what’s in your mind—so don’t beg. Even if I wanted to spare you, I can’t. Your luck ran out the moment you crossed me."
Splash—!
